The National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) is a federally funded research and development center focused solely on adult learning. NCSALL's efforts are dedicated to improving practice in educational programs that serve adults with limited literacy and English language skills, and those without a high school diploma.

Southern California Library Literacy Network
From the beginning of the establishment of library literacy programs by the California State Library in 1984, library programs in Southern California have been meeting to share resources and ideas, and address literacy issues. The Southern California Library Literacy Network (SCLLN) was formalized in 1985. SCLLN has 49 member libraries and continues to expand our commitment to meet the literacy needs of Southern California.
National Institute for Literacy
The National Institute for Literacy's (NIFL) programs and services encourage the development and provision of high quality adult education and literacy services. Individually, they address some of the most important challenges facing the field, including how to improve accountability, use technology to its full advantage, and meet the needs of adults with learning disabilities.

San Diego Council on Literacy
The San Diego Council on Literacy is composed of over 20 literacy centers which provide learning opportunities in adult basic education, GED, English as a Second Language, and youth and family literacy. The Council supports these literacy organizations by raising literacy awareness in the community and placing volunteer literacy tutors and adult learners with literacy programs that best suit their needs.

National Assessments of Adult Literacy
The 2003 National Assessment of Adult Literacy (NAAL) (released on December 15, 2005) provides the first assessment of the nation's progress in adult literacy since 1992. In addition to describing the status and progress of literacy in the nation, the 2003 NAAL will provide information about background factors associated with literacy, the skill levels of the least-literate adults, and the application of literacy skills to health-related materials.
