Bonita-Sunnyside Library hosts One Book, One San Diego author visit

The Bonita-Sunnyside Branch hosted SDCL's One Book, One San Diego visit with Lysley Tenorio, author of Monstress in October 2014. Monstress consists of short stories about Filipino-American experiences in California and the Philippines. Tenorio, who was born and raised in San Diego, discussed topics from the book and how they related to community. This was the result of a partnership with KPBS and San Diego Public Library. One Book, One San Diego aims to join the San Diego community together in the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. The program also encourages participation in related events, discussions of the ideas raised in the featured books, and examination of how these ideas connect with our daily lives and local communities. Tenorio's appearance and talk helped draw in an underserved community of Fillipino-American residents as well as raised awareness about a new Filipino-American author. 101 people attended the program.
