When Zumba teacher Angelica Deaver was studying English as a Second Language at the Ramona Community Library the other ladies in her ESL class urged her to offer a free fitness class at the library. "I wanted to help these ladies get fit and have a day for themselves," says Angelica. Since August of 2012 the Ramona library has been offering bilingual (English/Spanish) Zumba classes every Friday from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Ms. Deaver proudly reports that "one of my students has already lost 10 pounds!"
But this class is not limited to women. Her student Oscar has been sweating to the beat of the music and has discovered a hidden talent - he is a great dancer! With a nod from Angelica, Oscar is going to be offering more exercise/dance classes at the library.
"The library gave me a chance to acquire more experience and gain confidence," Angelica explains. "I got to help the community and it gave me the courage to offer other classes." Angelica will begin teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a local business in January 2013.
