Save or Delete a Library Card Number/PIN in Your Web Browser

Most web browsers offer a function to "remember" usernames and passwords. If you wish to have your browser "remember" your library card number/PIN, or delete an incorrectly saved library card number/PIN, please follow the instructions for your browser below:

Safari

** There is a technical issue with the latest version of Safari that is preventing library card numbers and PINs from being saved in the browser. Safari either does not offer the option to save the information, or attempts to insert a credit card number into the Library Card Number field. Please try accessing your account with a different browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox) if you wish to have your library card number and PIN saved in the browser.

If you are using an older version of Safari:

Save Library Card Number and PIN

To have Safari "remember" your library card number and PIN, please follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Safari menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Click Passwords
  4. Place a check next to AutoFill user names and passwords.
  5. Log into My Account with your library card number and PIN. When Safari asks if you want to save the password, click on Yes.
  6. Delete Library Card Number and PIN

    If Safari is "remembering" an outdated or incorrect library card number and/or PIN, please follow these instructions to update or delete your information.

    1. Open the Safari menu.
    2. Select Preferences.
    3. Switch to the AutoFill tab.
    4. Click the Edit button for Usernames and Passwords.
    5. Delete the entry that corresponds with the site you want to remove.
    6. To save a new library barcode and password: Log into My Account with the new library card number and PIN. When Safari asks if you want to save the password, click on Yes.

    Internet Explorer

    Save Library Card Number and PIN

    To have Internet Explorer "remember" your library card number and PIN, please follow these instructions:

    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Click the Tools button (gear icon in top-right of browser), and then click Internet options.
    3. On the Content tab, under AutoComplete, click Settings.
    4. Select the User names and passwords on forms check box.
    5. Click OK, and then click OK again.
    6. Log into My Account with your library card number and PIN. When Internet Explorer asks if you want to save the password, click on Yes.

    Delete Library Card Number and PIN

    If Internet Explorer is "remembering" an outdated or incorrect library card number and/or PIN, please follow these instructions to update or delete your information.

    1. On the My Account login page, click inside the Library Card Number box. Your saved AutoComplete entries will drop down. If they don't drop down, type the first digit of the library card number.
    2. In the drop-down list, highlight the number you wish to delete by placing the cursor on it. (Do not click on the number.)
    3. With the number still highlighted, press the Delete key on your keyboard.
    4. A window will pop up to confirm whether you want to delete the username and password. Click on Yes.
    5. To save a new library barcode and password: Log into My Account with the new library card number and PIN. When Internet Explorer asks if you want to save the password, click on Yes.

    Mozilla Firefox

    Save Library Card Number and PIN

    To have Firefox "remember" your library card number and PIN, please follow these instructions:

    1. Click the menu button and choose Options.
    2. Select the Security panel.
    3. If it isn't already check marked, check Remember passwords for sites.
    4. To the right of Remember passwords for sites, click the Exceptions... button.
    5. Make sure the library catalog (dbpcosdcsgt.co.san-diego.ca.us) isn't shown in the list. If it is, select the entry and click Remove.
    6. Click Close.
    7. Close the about:preferences page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.
    8. Log into My Account with your library card number and PIN. When Firefox asks if you want to save the password, click on Remember password.

    Delete Library Card Number and PIN

    If Firefox is "remembering" an outdated or incorrect library card number and/or PIN, please follow these instructions to update or delete your information.

    1. Click the menu button and select Options.
    2. Select the Security panel.
    3. Click Saved Passwords... and the Password Manager will open.
    4. Select the password you want to delete from the list and click Remove.
    5. Click on Close to close the window.
    6. To save a new library barcode and password: Log into My Account with the new library card number and PIN. When Firefox asks if you want to save the password, click on Remember password.

    Google Chrome

    Save Library Card Number and PIN

    To have Chrome "remember" your library card number and PIN, please follow these instructions:

    1. Go to the My Library Account login page.
    2. At the end of the address bar in Chrome, click the key icon.
    3. Under the message "You chose not to allow passwords to be saved on this site," click Undo.
    4. Log into My Account with your library card number and PIN. When Chrome asks if you want to save the password, click on Save password.

    Delete Library Card Number and PIN

    If Chrome is "remembering" an outdated or incorrect library card number and/or PIN, please follow these instructions to update or delete your information.

    1. Click the Chrome menu on the top-right of the browser toolbar.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Click Show advanced settings.
    4. Click Manage saved passwords in the "Passwords and forms" section to see a list of all the usernames and passwords that have been saved.
    5. Windows users: In the Passwords dialog that appears, use your mouse to hover over the site whose password you'd like to remove and click the X that appears on the right. Click on Done.
      Mac users: You can remove your passwords in the Keychain Access dialog that appears.
    6. To save a new library barcode and password: Log into My Account with the new library card number and PIN. When Chrome asks if you want to save the password, click on Save password.
