San Diego County Library is entering into a new partnership with the Regional Task Force on the Homeless. The Task Force conducts an annual count of citizens living in San Diego County who are experiencing homelessness. Ten library branches will host volunteers who count or survey members of the community between January 29 and February 4. The ten participating library branches are: Casa de Oro, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, Poway, San Marcos, Imperial Beach, Encinitas, Vista and Fallbrook.
Last year, with the help of 1,200 volunteers, they counted over 8,700 homeless individuals in the county. "Part of the library's mission is to promote safe communities," said Library Director José Aponte. "We are proud to assist this task force to reach better understanding of San Diego's homelessness situation so that we can improve community services for all our residents."
