San Diego County Library is kicking off Summer at Your Library, running from June 1 to August 31.
Our website will be the go-to spot for Summer Learning. You’ll find the 2026 Summer Learning challenge, events, curated booklists, eBooks of the Month and summer meal programs.
Join the Summer Learning Challenge! Register online through Beanstack or stop by any SDCL branch. Download or pick up a learning log at your local branch to track your progress. Complete 10 books, reading hours, and activities by August 31.
Once you've completed the challenge, visit any of our 33 branches to pick up your well-deserved prizes! The SDCL Summer Challenge is open to all ages and abilities, and learning logs are available online in nine different languages.
Good news - new library books are on the way. We expect new materials to begin arriving this summer, possibly even sooner.
The nationwide closure of the largest U.S. library book vendor late last year affected libraries across the country, including ours. This has caused significant delays as remaining vendors worked to take on an unprecedented number of new clients.
We know how important it is to have access to the latest titles, and we appreciate your patience during this transition.
San Diego County Library is recognizing the nation’s 250th anniversary throughout all of 2026 across our 33 library branches. Each branch is hosting at least one activity connected to the commemoration, with efforts designed to reflect local community interests and history.
The library is supporting learning through:
- local history exploration connected to San Diego County
- civic topics that highlight the evolution of participation and rights
- cultural and educational engagement for families and adults
- reading initiatives that encourage reflection on the nation’s past and future
We are also offering curated America’s 250th anniversary reading lists on Libby, making it easy for residents to explore history digitally from anywhere. Residents can also find programs, booklists, and online exhibits connected to the anniversary by visiting our website.
